Construction Status

As of December 2008, site preparation is now underway for excavation for the foundation of the San Salvador El Salvador Temple, though the ceremonial groundbreaking was held four months earlier.

Despite the rainy weather, a warm spirit was felt by all who were privileged to be in attendance at the groundbreaking ceremony for the San Salvador El Salvador Temple held Saturday, September 20, 2008. Elder Don R. Clarke of the Seventy, president of the Central America Area, presided at the services. He was accompanied by his counselors, Elder Shirley D. Christensen and Elder Enrique R. Falabella, as well as Carlos F. Rivas, an Area Seventy. Those invited to participate included stake presidents, bishops, and their families.1

The temple was announced in a letter to priesthood leaders from the First Presidency dated November 7, 2007. The Presidency noted the blessing the temple will be to the many faithful Saints of San Salvador who currently travel long distances to participate in temple ordinances.2

Temple Locale

Located in the affluent Antiguo Cuscatlán district, southwest of San Salvador, the three-story San Salvador El Salvador Temple will stand near the Multiplaza Panamericana Mall with the stunning backdrop of the mighty San Salvador volcano. The sacred edifice will be surrounded by attractive grounds that offer a calming retreat to all San Salvadorians.
